Gee Thanks

Blah blah blah. Driving down the road. Slowly through the city. Chatting with James and Madison.

“Stop! Stop!” I have spotted a doggy in distress. An old, but small, dog has squeezed through the railing. The owner is chatting on his phone and does not notice the hanging, literally hanging, dog. He is seconds from death.

James screeches to a halt. I jump out and run over to the doggy. All in a minute, I lift the dog up to the owner that has now turned his attention my screaming way.

As I grab the dog to save his life, he shits all over me. I mean stinky all down the front of my clean clothes.

Am I mad at him? No. The dog was scared out of his mind. If I could go back in time, would I change what I did? No.

I have had similar situations with people. I help them, I save them, I give to them, I forgive them. And they shit all over me. But that is beside the point.

Despite what everyone else does, I am only responsible for me.

  1. How amazing that you just happened to be there at the exact moment that dog needed you. I’m sorry he let lose on you, but you did a wonderful thing. There will always be those who shit on us no matter how much we are there for them, how much we give them, or how much we do for them. But there will be those, however few and far between, that will truly appreciate the things you’ve done and will be there when you need them.

  2. I found as a pastor you can rescue folk and they still crap all over you! But I would not change any of my actions either. There is a parable, “There was a little sparrow flying in a blizzard. He froze mid air and fell to the ground in a barnyard. Miserable and cold, he thought he would die. Just then a cow pooped on him. The warm manure thawed his frozen body. He was so happy he began to sing. The farm cat heard him, pulled him out of the cow plop and ate him!” The moral of the story is: Not everyone who craps on you is your enemy. Not everyone who gets you out of crap is your friend. Finally if you are happy and in a pile of crap – keep your mouth shut!

  3. I, unfortunately seem to be the last to run forward (figuratively) and help. But I, too, have had some moments when I’ve reached out to help, and get crapped on. Maybe I should open my eyes and see what is going on around me instead of just what’s going on inside me, or to me. ๐Ÿ˜›

  4. What a marvelous attitude! Someone I know, would be just totally consumed by the ‘crappy’ part of your story and would never forget it… Thanks for saving the pup! Reminds me of a recent occurrence where I just may have ran out of a somewhat still moving car to do the same thing….ooops…. well, the dog and I both survived! YAY!

  5. Thank you, Caroline! I can totally relate to this experience. I feel for you, and love the way you handled the situation with such grace and Godliness. Stay encouraged, and keep on the ‘sunny side’ of life.!

  6. I love this! An act of loving kindness will always benefit you, whether it is appreciated by others or not! Put good Karma out there, and good Karma comes back to you…simple as that. Those who mistreat any living thing, whether animal or human, will eventually face the Karma that their actions create for them!
