Evolution Screws the Helpless

I have learned that this is a very emotional topic.  Honestly, I am not really sure why, but if I ever talk about this (which is not that often), I get people really upset.  So, I apologize…I don’t apologize….don’t want to make you mad, but here it is:

“To suppose that the eye with all its intimate contrivances for adjusting the forces to different differences, for admitting different amounts of light, and for the correction of spherical and chromatic aberration, could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest degree.”

Guess who said that?  Yep, the big man himself!  CHARLES ROBERT DARWIN!!!  There is some food for thought, the man who proposed the theory of evolution denied it himself.

From a scientific standpoint, let’s look at the theory of evolution.  Years ago, I attended a lecture under Ken Hamm.  He is a genius of a man and definitely a great man of thinkers of the modern world. He completely demolished the possibility of evolution in one fatal two minute blow describing the impossibility of a giraffe evolving.  It would have died several times during that process.  But he continued and by the end of it, any evolutionist would be crawling under the table.  I can not recommend enough the resources found at answersingenesis.org

From a Biblical standpoint, there are those that believe that God created the world through evolution.  There are several problems with that but to state one:  Adam named all the animals before Eve was created.  So, this theory suggests that evolution occurred to lead up to Adam and Eve and that evolution occurred before the fall.  So, this theory states that death occurred before the fall, which is not biblical because death was a part of the curse and did not exist before it.

And now, for the title:  From an emotional standpoint, Evolution screws the helpless.  According to evolution, it is survival of the fittest.  According to evolution, this is what we’ve got, right now.  So, if you are dying a painful death, if you are a starving child, if you are living each day in agony, the remedy is to end it all.  There is no reason to keep going.  There is no hope.  There is no value for human life.  If you are born with a deformity, you are a mistake, the world will be better when you are gone.

Do I leave you with no hope?  NO!  Because I do not believe in evolution.  (Bet you couldn’t have guessed that.) And why do I write a post on evolution when I know some people are really pissed at me by this point?  Because I want to tell those that do not know that there is hope!  I have a reason to convince you!  I want to tell you that you mean something!  Sorry, but why would anyone try to convince me that evolution is real?!!!  The proof of burden falls on the evolutionist.  The God of the universe made you in his image!  You have worth!  He heals those with disease and injury and hurt!  You have a purpose!  If you are suffering, there is hope!  There is a reason to struggle and survive!  Because you are precious to the God that made it all!

  1. Great post. I personally believe in evolution and it makes me awestruck at the powers of God and his ability to shape nature like an artist. I don’t think anyone should respond negatively to your beliefs. The important thing is to know Jesus and love like there is no tomorrow. I didn’t right this to argue but only to recognize a respect for your writing ability and strength of views.

  2. Yes. However, some people will go on believing the desires of their own heart. Shows how the wrong presuppositional position will skew whatever rational thought comes after that root. Well done. Blessings.

  9. I love how the Lord takes the things and people that are broken and discarded by this world and uses them as a vessel to showcase His glory and power. That means that there is hope for all of us who recognize in the light of God our need for redemption and a Saviour.

  10. Evolution, creationism or intelligent design. The evolution process is not as easy to dismiss as you present it here.

    There are also things to say in favour of creationism and intelligent design whether you are an atheist, deist or simply religious.

    One thing is clear though, the evolutionary process and the following theory is very likely and some factors are not yet accounted for. To dismiss it on those grounds is simply as lazy as Scholasticism was in the Middle-Ages.

    I grew up with the Bible and had an interest in science and philosophy. The discussion-rejection cycle between pro and anti-evolution people is useless. Some aspects of different approaches actually make sense but you have to look at the context.

    Science and religion can complement each other. It is matter of removing the old dogmas and reducing bias to find some useful answers. To use a Darwin quote is too easy…

I don’t share this a lot outside of ministry (for the reason you stated in your first paragraph), but I have a degree from the University of Pittsburgh in “Physical Anthropology and Primate Morphology” (read: evolution). I wasn’t a Christian then and was trying to figure things out, but even though I’d never given any thought whatsoever to the ides of creationism (because that’s just LOONY right??), evolution never really added up, never made full sense.

    Fast forward to a few years, I accepted Christ, and I never again doubted, I believe God created the world, exactly as He said He did. It is unfortunately, always a topic that gets heated. Thanks for tackling it, and you are so right, people don’t always realize the full implication of belief in evolution (such as the fact that we are worth nothing and completely purposeless). Great work!

  15. Great post! Yes, I think the current science of evolution is being propped up for political purposes. I am also convinced there is a Berlin Wall of science where inquiry into certain scientific questions is forbidden and will get one in a lot of trouble or get you blacklisted. Alternative energy is one of those fields.

    i applaud your sincerity and devotion to truth and agree with what you’ve written except for one suggestion for thought; you state that “, this theory states that death occurred before the fall, which is not biblical because death was a part of the curse and did not exist before it.” I’m not so sure I agree with that statement in its entirety, if I am understanding death to mean the absence of life in a being which once held life. 2Peter 3:5-7. Many put this scripture to rest by tying it to Noah’s flood, but it hints at a judgement by water that is like the one in Noah’s time. Another judgement is coming but not by water since the covenant with Noah but this time by fire for ungodly men. A type of death is signified by the curse in Genesis after the fall, but would you say it’s possible that God cleansed the earth in the beginning because there was another judgement that brought into being the restoration and beginning for the ones made in His image?

  18. Another great post Caroline, and I appreciate all the commentary it provoked, which after all, is one of the best things about great posts. I, like yourself, am a Bible believing Christian who also shares a very healthy respect for science. I see absolutely no reason why one has to cancel out the other, and I believe God invented science so that we would have a way of investigating this marvellous creation that is the work of His hands.
